Steering Wheel Installation GuideUpdated an hour ago
Tools Required
Flathead screwdriver
16mm socket
1️. Disconnect the Battery
Open your trunk (or hood) and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2️. Remove the Airbag
Insert a flathead screwdriver or pick tool to release the retaining spring (little holes on the sides of the wheel).
Do the same on both sides.
Carefully pull the airbag forward and disconnect the yellow plugs.
Set the airbag facing up on a soft surface away from you.
3️. Remove the Steering Wheel
Unplug the wiring connectors inside the wheel (horn, buttons, paddle shifters, etc.).
Use a 16mm socket to remove the center bolt holding the wheel to the column.
Mark the shaft with a Sharpie so you can align the new wheel correctly, also follow the original alignment line.
Carefully pull the wheel straight off. Wiggle if it is tight, but don’t force it. Be careful not to spin the clock spring.
4️. Install the New Wheel
⚠ If you are upgrading from a base wheel to one with paddle shifters, extra wiring or coding may be required.
Line up the new wheel with your alignment mark.
Plug in all connectors for buttons, paddles, or heating (if applicable).
Torque the center bolt to ~62 Nm (45 ft-lb).
Tuck in the wires neatly.
5️. Reinstall the Airbag
Plug in the yellow airbag connectors.
Press the airbag module firmly into place until it clicks on both sides.
6. Reconnect the Battery & Test
Reconnect the negative terminal.
Start the car and check:
Steering wheel controls
Paddle shifters (if installed)
Heated wheel (if applicable)
No airbag or steering errors on the dash
