Tools Required
Retrofit kit (compatible with BMW F/G/E chassis)
Trim removal tools
Pick tool
T20 Torx screwdriver
Ratchet wrench
1️. Preparation
Ensure the ignition is turned off.
Remove the keys from the vehicle.
Open the trunk.
Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery using a wrench.
2️. Remove Trim Panels
Use trim removal tools to gently pry off panels around:
Stereo unit
Infotainment screen
Disconnect the hazard and lock/unlock connectors behind the AC vents trim.
Be gentle to avoid:
Breaking clips
Damaging trim surfaces
Set all removed trim pieces aside safely.
3️. Remove Stereo Unit
Use a T20 Torx screwdriver to remove screws securing the stereo unit.
Gently pull the stereo unit forward.
Disconnect the main wiring harness ("black squared" plug).
Be cautious not to:
Pull too hard
Damage any wires
Place the stereo unit in a safe location.
4️. Install Retrofit Kit
Connect the retrofit adapter harness to the stereo using the black squared connector.
Plug the OEM connector into the new adapter harness.
Important:
Transfer the optical cable into the new black squared connector
This step is essential for audio functionality (especially for NBT and NBT EVO systems).
Ensure all harnesses are:
Securely connected
Fully seated
Mount additional components (if included in the kit) behind the screen.
Optional:
Connect the included USB harness for:
Dash cam
Backup camera
Phone charging
5️. Connect to Infotainment System
Plug retrofit harnesses into the appropriate ports on the back of the infotainment screen:
Typically small white connectors
Connect all auxiliary wires:
GPS antenna
Microphone (MIC)
WiFi antenna
Double-check that all connectors are firmly seated to avoid issues.
6️. Reinstall Stereo Unit and Trim
Tuck excess wiring neatly behind the stereo unit.
Use the T20 Torx screwdriver to secure the stereo back into place.
Reinstall all trim panels around the screen and controls by snapping them back in.
7️. Reconnect Battery
Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
Tighten the terminal securely using a wrench.
8️. Testing and Final Checks
Start the vehicle to power on the infotainment system.
Connect your smartphone via:
Bluetooth
USB cable
Test functionality of:
Apple CarPlay
Android Auto
Audio system
GPS
Any auxiliary components (e.g., backup camera, USB charging)
